Every day at Redwood High School, students of all grades are seen with energy drinks. Are these drinks actually helpful for daily activities, or are they just for the trendy look?

Many students at Redwood are seen daily with energy drinks. Energy drinks are known to boost energy and help show better performance in sports and even academic activities.

At Redwood, the most well-known/popular energy drink among students is Alani.

According to John Hopkins Medicine, “Studies have found that almost one-third of teens ages 12 to 17 drink energy drinks regularly, and there are growing concerns that an increase in consumption by kids will lead to increased health issues.”

Scarlett Flores, ‘30, who drinks Alani herself, says, “I like energy drinks because they give me energy after I have a long day.”

Flores also says, “My favorite energy drink is a cotton candy Alani”

Alani’s most common flavors are Hawaiian shaved ice, Cherry slush, and Breezeberry. The obvious is that these are some of their sweeter flavors, but overall, Hawaiian shaved ice has remained on top.

Zadrhee Bacani, ‘30, says, “My favorite energy drink is Alani blue slush; it’s my favorite energy drink because it reminds me of theme parks and fairs.”

Bacani shares that her friends initially told her about Alani energy drinks, and that’s how the brand got to her.

The energy drink Alani was introduced in 2018; it became more popular and was talked about throughout 2021 and 2022.

Teenagers are usually the ones who talk about these energy drinks more than adults.

Jayson Beswick, ‘30, shares a different opinion. Beswick says, “My favorite energy drink is probably Bloom because it tastes like apple cider flavor, and that’s really good.”

Beswick also shared his thoughts on Alani drinks. Beswick says, “I like them, but sometimes it can be too sweet and make my stomach hurt.”

Alani drinks are made with zero-calorie artificial sweeteners, yet Alani’s are still an unhealthy drink.

Madi Upham, ‘30, says, “I like energy drinks because they taste good. My favorite energy drink is probably purple cotton candy because it’s really sweet and it stands out to me.”

Purple Cotton Candy is a newer drink from the brand Alani, as it was released on June 17th, 2026.
