The Future Farmers of America (FFA) is preparing for major events during the 2026–2027 school year while developing new ways to engage students.
FFA is an organization that promotes agriculture, leadership, career development, and hands-on learning experiences.
Members can explore areas such as animal science, environmental science, and agricultural technology.
FFA President Colbie Kelley, ’27, says, “We are hoping to hold a fundraiser, possibly a bingo night. I’m also very excited about our hobo stew meeting.”
Ms. Veloz discusses the new teacher and explains how excited she is to help students become involved in FFA activities.
Ms. Veloz, an FFA/AG teacher, says, “I think our goal is to make sure our students feel welcomed and involved in FFA meetings and activities. We have a new teacher, which means another group of about 150 students, so I want to make sure they become involved as well.”
Mr. Coon describes the FFA events as exciting and says that many students have been attending.
Mr. Coon, an FFA/AG teacher, explains, “Spring National FFA Week is so much fun around the quad.”
Although involving students can be challenging, the FFA has many ways to encourage participation this year.
Mr. Coon says, “There are two ways to get students involved: teachers can encourage students and show enthusiasm, while older students in the program can set an example for younger FFA members.”
He explains that teachers and experienced members can help students stay involved throughout the year.
Ms. Veloz discusses the upcoming FFA podcast, new posters, and the importance of encouraging students to participate on social media.
Ms. Veloz, an FFA/AG teacher, states, “We want students to be more active on social media. We also have an FFA podcast coming out, and we want to include students by creating posters and spreading the word.”
Social media and the new podcast will help the FFA involve students and keep them informed about activities throughout the school year.
Kelley is excited about the additional opportunities and plans to use last year’s experience to help involve more students.
FFA President Colbie Kelley, ’27, says, “I really hope to bring more events and opportunities to the FFA and all of our members. I also want to work with my team and use what I learned from last year’s experience.”
The FFA team is excited to begin the school year and put its plans into action.
Kelley, ’27, explains, “I was a reporter last year, and I developed strong leadership skills that I hope to bring into this year. We have already reached our first goal by having students attend our first meeting.”
As a former reporter, Kelley is excited to use their experience and leadership skills to support FFA students this year.
