From dreaming of playing in high school to dedicating their entire summer to it; The Freshman Football team has learned to grow, adapt, and perform better than ever to this new sport. Showing their hard work and commitment five players tell why.

While some people stayed at home in bed or with family these boys planned their days around growing this passion.
Levi Montgomery, ’30, said, “[Summer practices] were fun but we would practice everyday from 6-8 [so] it was hard to accustom to this schedule.”
And Gage Romero, ’30, said ” For almost all of the dead period I stayed outside practicing for the upcoming season to be prepared for whatever happens.”
To stay motivated the boys had to stay motivated for their entire summer. While only doing one game and multiple scrimmages, they stayed focused on the same goal.
Aaron Montes, ’30, said, ” I am most excited for the away games, meeting new people and especially excited to beat all of the different teams that we play.”
Keeping this idea in mind they also had to remind themselves why they chose this sport. Not for the fame. Not for the time away from class, but to play.
Summer was never just three months off for them. Growing this team helped them be more aware and essentially wise.
Noah Royal, ’30, said, ” I think [summer practices] really helped our team because we are able to grow in ways that other teams may not be able to do if they are not practicing as much.”
While still having fun the team had to admit that it was not all they thought about when Andrew Krenz, ’30, said, “I have considered playing baseball but it just does not seem as fun as football.”
The Freshman team does still recognize that they are unable to do this on their own.
Montes, ’30, says ” I would like to shout out all of the coaches, more specifically Coach Payne, and all of the people on the team ’cause I feel like we are growing a lot and we are doing really good, so thank you to all of them.”
Football has never just been a game to take up your time. It is a mind game and an art piece, all of Redwood’s teams have done an amazing job at showing that.
