Redwood students should show school pride, respect Cowhide Week traditions, stay safe, cheer on their team until the final whistle, and be good sports during the rivalry.
Number one: Never wear Maroon
Never wear it if you go to Redwood or support Redwood; you’re missing your chance to show off your Redwood pride. Always wear blue or white to show your support for the best school in VUSD, and wear it proudly anytime you want to make your loyalty unmistakable.
Number 2: Never touch the cowhide
It is said that if a student touches the Cowhide, the traditional symbol of the Redwood rivalry, it will bring bad luck to the school for the game and perhaps even for the next few Cowhide games.
Number 3: Never set foot on the maroon school’s campus
If you step onto the rival campus during Cowhide, you could intensify an already fierce rivalry. Students should avoid the rival campus to help prevent conflict, stay safe, and keep Cowhide traditions respectful by honoring the spirit of the event.
Number 4: Never ever leave the game early
You cannot leave early under any circumstances; whether Redwood is winning big or mounting a comeback, you must stay until the final whistle. True Rangers must always stay to see who claims the trophy.
Number 5 always have good sportsmanship
Even as rivals, when Redwood beats the Maroon School in the Cowhide game, show positive school spirit and sportsmanship after the game because it reflects respect for both teams and keeps the rivalry friendly, respectful, and focused on the game.
