Election season has started and November 3rd is now less than a month away. Along with the presidential elections, individual states, counties, and communities will participate in voting for new officials that impact their specific area.
Visalia Unified School District (VUSD) holds school board elections every four years. The current school board consists of John L. Crabtree, Juan R. Guerrero, Niessen E. Foster, William A. Fulmer, Walta S. Gamoian, Joy M. Naylor Lucia, and D. Vázquez, Ed.D.
Each school trustee area has its own school board member. The board seats that are on the 2020 ballot are for areas 5, 6, and 7.
District 5 | District 6 | District 7 |
Current board member: Neissen Foster Candidates: Neissen Foster and Megan Casebeer-Soleno | Current board member: Dr. Lucia Vázquez Candidates: Dr. Lucia Vázquez and Christopher Pope | Current board member: William Fulmer Candidates: Nora Allsted, Randy Evans, Jacqueline Gaebe, Colijia Feliz and James R. Reynolds |
While board members Neissen Foster and Dr. Lucia Vázquez are both up for incumbents, William Fulmer has decided not to seek a fourth term. The candidate filling his spot will not have any experience with the school board.
The candidates who find themselves serving next term will take part in major decisions that affect VUSD. School board members deal with the district’s affairs, personnel, and properties.
Stay tuned into the government & politics page for upcoming interviews with this year’s new school board candidates.
