On September 21st, Redwood Water Polo played against El Diamante @ the El Diamante pool.
The first game was played at 4:30, starting Redwood off with their first win was the JV girls team.
Redwood’s JV girls team started off the night playing at 4:30. The JV team had previously played El Diamante in a tournament, so they knew what they were up against. JV girls were able to pull out a win of 14-6.
Ainsley Chamberlin, ’21, was the top scorer of the game with a total of 6 goals.
Violet Vagt, ’20, says, “Although we were able to rack up a big score during our game, El Diamante is one of our toughest competitors. They have an incredibly fast team and it was tough to keep up with them in pool, but we were able to stop their passes and prevent them from scoring. El Diamante has always been one of the bigger challenges we face every year, so to beat them this season gave our team a lot of confidence for our upcoming games.”
Redwood’s Varsity girls team played next @ 5:30. Ranger girls were able to get the dub ending with a score of 5-2.
Sophie Terry, ’18, was the top scorer for the team, with a total of 3 out of 5 goals.
Emma Peters, ’19, says, “El Diamante is definitely one of the hardest teams we will play this year. We worked really hard to prepare for this game and it was definitely worth it in the end. Overall, our season is looking pretty good this year. We are always thinking about how there are other teams out there working harder than we are, which motivates us to keep working hard throughout practices and games. There is always something new to learn and skills to perfect, so we work super hard during practices to be the best team we can possibly be this season.”
Redwood Varsity boys started the third game of the night @ 6:30. Ranger boys pulled out the win with a score of 12-9 against El D.
Koby Ramage, ’18, Varsity’s goalie was the star of the game, shutting many of El Diamante best shooters down by blocking several goals.
Luke Parker, ’19, says, “El D is a big competitor during our season and this game helped us prepare and see where we are at for our big game against Golden West next week. We had a solid game and were able to play everyone on the team tonight. After this game, it showed our team that we need work on our shooting and defense skills for our upcoming games.”
Redwood JV boys ended the night with their game against El D @ 7:30, winning with a score of 13-2.
Logan Parsley, ’21, was the star of the show with a total of 7 goals.
Zane Wilson, ’20, says, “So far this season we have won 8 out of 9 games, therefore we are pretty confident as in where we are as a team. Tonight our team played well overall. We have been working really hard this season during practices and games to prepare for our big competitors, such as the Clovis schools.”
