Since When has College been Affordable?

It’s that time of year again at Redwood High School, Seniors leave, and everyone else moves up!

With that being said the average student graduates college in California with$ 22,000 worth of debt! This combined with the shallow job market can result in a quagmire of debt and hopelessness.

However not all is lost. There are a plethora of ways to make it through college with as little debt as possible.

One of the best ways to avoid debt is pretty simple, get a job! Many college’s offer on campus jobs which actively work to chip away at that expensive tuition cost. Some jobs include working in local restaurants ran at the college, becoming an academic tutor, working in the library, and even becoming a research assistant to professors.

Another beneficial, yet typically ignored step is community college. The cost at COS per semester is around $800. Compare this to Fresno State, a relatively cheap four year college, which costs around $7,000 a semester. Good old, “UC Mooney” may come in handy after all.

Scholarships are designed to help people like you, and yeah I mean you. There is a scholarship for just about anything anyone can think of. If you’re short there’s a scholarship for that. If you’re tall there’s a scholarship for that. The list goes on, and I guarantee if you look hard enough something will pop up.

So there you have it, an abundance of easy ways to reduce that college debt. It may not get rid of the problem, but hopefully they help make your college experience a little more manageable.
