On Wednesday, December 7th, the lady Ranger Wrestling squad had their first home match in the Redwood Gym against Sanger High.
Savannah Crippen ’18 wrestled in the weight class below her regular class. She wrestled valiantly but lost her match. She said”I lost 8 lbs to wrestle in my class tonight. My body hurts a lot, but it was a good experience. She said “I feel stronger at 150. I’m looking forward to Monache tournament Saturday.”
Maria Barrillas ’19 wrestled the 126 class. She pinned her opponent. She said “I feel good. I’m proud of myself. I was out for a while with a shoulder injury. Tonight is my first night back.”
Raven Diggs wrestled in the 106 class. Even though she lost her match she said she Was “excited about Saturday in Porterville. I’m really proud of Maria tonight.”
Coach Roy Orosco said “Sanger is pretty tough. There were a lot of nerves going into tonight. In the end we got ourselves some matches and some experience and that going to help us down the road.”
Orosco said “It was nice to see Maria Barrillas coming off a shoulder injury and get a pin for the win.”
Orosco is looking forward to the tournament at Monache on Saturday. “Olivia Rosales and Kassandra Poncey turned it up a notch today.”
