Visalia Unified School District is constantly expanding and adapting, with different ways to accommodate for the communities. It has been recently announced that there will be a new elementary school in the VUSD district. This new school will be named Riverway.
This new elementary school is being built to help relieve overcrowding in the rest of the elementary schools such as Oak Grove and Shannon Ranch. Visalia’s district is constantly growing, with the population increasing resulting with more houses being built. The elementary school will be placed on the North-West side of Visalia, close to the Riverway sports park. New homes are currently being built very close to the location of the new school.
The mascot of Riverway will be the Otters. The school colors will be purple and silver. Riverway will feed into the middle school Ridgeview. Riverway will be the 26th elementary school in the Visalia district. Many people, including myself, may wonder what is the need for yet another school, with Shannon Ranch, Ridgeview, and Manuel Hernandez being built not too long ago.
Riverway will benefit the district by allowing children to be more focused upon individually, result of the decreasing number of kids that will be attending each school. It will also give more jobs to the community.
Riverway will be open August 2017. Many are excited to see how the regions will be divided, and excited to witness the final outcome of the school.
